Job Description

Westat is currently seeking motivated individuals with a commitment to excellence to collect data for an important study conducted for the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). The International Early Learning Study (IELS) is a digitally administered, play-based assessment of 5-year-olds. IELS is designed to help countries improve children’s early learning experiences and better support their development and overall well-being.

The primary role of the IELS team leader is to manage a team of assessors and all the data collection activities for assigned schools. The team leader will also conduct the in-person child assessment.

Basic Qualifications

Candidates must:

·Be at least 18 years old;

·Be available to attend two mandatory in-person trainings in Rockville and Bethesda, MD. The pre-assessment activities training takes place on August 30th and the assessment training runs from October 3rd-6th; and

·Be available to complete the mandatory home study training prior to each in-person training (approximately 5 hours per training).

Minimum Requirements

·Be available to work during the field period of late-August 2018 through mid-December 2018.

·Be available to work up to 40 hours per week (mainly during school hours), with a possibility of evening and weekend hours when work is available.

·Be willing to travel within your work area for project work with a possibility of some overnight assignments.

·Be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations:

o Lift and carry 20 pounds of equipment and materials; and

o Climb a flight of stairs while carrying equipment.

·Have regular and reliable access to telephone service with a long-distance calling feature, either landline or cellular.

·Have regular and reliable access to a secure high-speed Internet connection for data transmission.

·Have a valid (current) driver’s license that is not under suspension.

·Have regular access to an insured, reliable vehicle.

·Must display a professional appearance and demeanor.

·Must be willing to adapt to changes in school schedules and requirements.

·Must be comfortable navigating and entering data into a web-based field management system.

·Have excellent keyboarding and electronic data entry skills.

·Be a team player.

·Have excellent verbal communication skills.

Preferred Criteria

·Previous experience working as a team leader, troubleshooter, assessor, interviewer, or health technician on the ECLS-K:2011 or other education studies.

·Have education-related work experience.

·Have experience collecting data in a standardized manner.

·Be detail oriented (e.g., using correct school IDs, recording school information accurately, etc.) and have strong organizational skills (e.g., maintaining school information and schedules, etc.).

·Have experience working with children and/or in a school setting.

·Have experience conducting assessments in schools.

·Be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

·Have a bachelor’s degree in education.
