Westat is currently seeking motivated and detail-oriented individuals to be bilingual data collectors on the Families, Children, and Teachers Thriving Together Study, also known as the NYU Study 3 .
The primary role of the NYU Study 3 bilingual data collector is to conduct onsite data collection activities, including child assessments at preschool centers in New York City. Assessments will be administered during preschool daytime hours Monday – Friday over a two-month period in the fall.
This offer is contingent upon the award of the NYU Study 3 contract to Westat. In the event that Westat does not secure this contract, this offer becomes null and void.
·Be at least 18 years old.
·Be fluent in both written and spoken English and Spanish. Must successfully complete Westat’s Spanish language proficiency assessment.
·Be available to attend a mandatory one-day, in-person training in New York City in either late September or early October.
·Be available to work the fall data collection period from September 2018 through mid-December 2018;
·Be available to work between 15 - 20 hours per week, primarily daytime hours Monday through Friday, but with the possibility of evening and weekend hours when work is available;
·Be willing to travel locally between counties for project work;
·Be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations:
Lift and carry up to 15 pounds of equipment and materials;
Walk two blocks;
Climb a flight of stairs while carrying equipment; and
Sit with children on the floor or on child-size furniture.
·Have regular and reliable access to telephone service with a long-distance calling feature, either landline or cellular;
·Have regular and reliable access to a secure high-speed Internet connection;
·Have regular and reliable access to an insured vehicle (except in certain metropolitan areas);
·Have a valid (current) driver’s license that is not under suspension;
·Be detail oriented and able to multi-task; and
·Have strong communication and computer skills.
·Experience in conducting research and interviews, as well as experience in early childhood education settings, is strongly preferred;
·Experience working with children ages 2-4;
·The ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English;
·Strong reading, verbal, and written communication skills;
·Be comfortable using a laptop computer and establishing Wi-Fi connections in various locations;
·Experience using Internet applications to find information, including GPS mapping services;
·Experience working with the general public;
·Be self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented;
·Be able to work consistently in an organized manner;
·Be flexible in working assigned tasks; and
·The ability to work independently.
